Carcharocles megalodon

Carcharocles megalodon

The owner of this tooth, known as Megalodon, was a shark that lived in the warm seas of the Cenozoic Tertiary period (Miocene-Pliocene, approx. 18 million to 3.6 million years ago). Its scientific name is Carcharocles megalodon.

Since sharks are cartilaginous fish, only their jaws and teeth remain as fossils. Therefore, there are various theories about its estimated total length, but it seems certain that it was a large species exceeding 10 meters in length.
