Crotalocephalus gibbus
Crotalocephalus gibbus from the Atlas Mountains, Morocco. It belongs to the Class Trilobita, Order Phacopida, Family Cheiruridae. A trilobite nicknamed the "ancient caterpillar". Crotalocephalus has a relatively elongated body for a trilobite.
Until around 2015, high-quality specimens were often seen, but recently they have reportedly become less common on the market.
This specimen is in good condition, and the hypostome (lip plate) is preserved on the underside of the head. Note the small granular details on the surface.
This is a masterpiece prepared by Horst Burkard, known as one of the world's top preparators. I think I got it cheaply.
