This is a spiky ammonite, Peltoceras. From France. It lived during the Jurassic period.
I like that the spines are well-preserved. I wonder if they evolved for defense.
I acquired this from an individual, and "having the specimen label from PLANEY Co." was also a purchasing point. They are the organizers of Japan's largest mineral show, the "Tokyo Mineral Show." For me, "being a fossil from a reliable source" is also one of the conditions for considering a purchase.
I think I managed to get a spiky, well-preserved ammonite at a low price. Satisfied.
